My name is Matthew Maher. I have been a solicitor since 1991.
I did my articles at Wisewoulds, and it is the only professional job I've had. I think I'm close to the title of the longest serving employee here, and it's one I intend to claim.
I have practised in Accident Compensation law since admission. Accident Compensation has been a jurisdiction of substantial change over that time, as successive legislative programmes have been put in place to manage what is often a difficult social issue.
There are a lot of lawyers working this field, so there are a lot of cases and policy issues to be kept up with.
I am an obsessive and curious lawyer, and work hard to keep abreast of doings in my area of expertise. I have been fortunate enough to be involved in legislative and regulatory work, and some bits of the Accident Compensation Act that I advised on have survived the legislative changes referred to above.
I think Wisewould Mahony is an outstanding law firm, with intelligent, enthusiastic and spirited people. I reckon we are good to have in your corner - not pretentious, and willing to fight hard.

Essendon Hopeful
Outside work, I still harbour an ambition to be drafted by the Essendon Football Club, but it's a bit unlikely now. I could kick the ball pretty well but the getting it part had me defeated. I like golf, but I tend to have to play it in my imagination.
I have 3 children who I like a lot - they are less sure about me though.
My major vice is red wine. They say a glass a day keeps you healthy; at this rate, I will live til I'm 137.
No doubt I'll still be here then...
