John received his Certificate to Practise as a Barrister & Solicitor of the Supreme Court in 1974 upon graduating from the Articled Clerks’ Course at RMIT. John has provided legal services to the hospitality industry for over thirty years, in such areas as liquor licensing and regulation, gaming licensing and regulation, property law, planning law, business law and leasing. He is a co-author of Bourkes Liquor Laws Victoria, the only current textbook on licensing law and practice in Victoria, and has contributed articles on the subject to the Law Institute Journal.
John is a long serving member of the Law Institute’s Leisure & Hospitality Law Committee, a sub-committee of the Property and Environmental Law Section, and is also a member of the Commercial Law Section. He has participated in seminars for Tourism Training Victoria and contributed to a handbook for persons contemplating the purchase of a hospitality business.
