Trainee Solicitor
Having worked part-time at Wisewoulds and later Wisewould Mahony for the past five years as I completed my law degree, I was left in no doubt that this was the place I wanted to complete my Trainee year. While my work in those previous five years was comprised of a number of roles including inspection of subpoenaed documents, working in our Deeds Department and attending settlements for our Credit Union Department, the first few weeks of my trainee year has already provided a number of fresh, exciting and challenging tasks that I can expect to continually be presented with throughout the upcoming year.
The most obvious and distinctive of these tasks at Wisewould Mahony is certainly court appearances, something trainees are exposed to from the get go! Such an opportunity is not necessarily customary in your trainee year, yet it highlights the amount of responsibility and matter participation afforded to the trainees here right from the start.
While Wisewould Mahony offers trainees the opportunity to get particularly ‘hands on’ whilst learning and working closely with all its legal practitioners, it also allows staff the chance to socialise outside the typical work environment through various regularly organised social events. The participation in and success of such events is testament to the friendly, vibrant and truly unique working culture that defines Wisewould Mahony both within and outside its office walls.
So after the long and arduous university life of study, exams and no coin finally came to a close (albeit courtesy of a painfully slow death), I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to commence my legal career at a firm I truly loved working at. I am currently placed in the WorkCover Department, which has already provided me with a variety of different tasks to sink my teeth into and gain an understanding of early in the proccess. I then eagerly await the chance to rotate through the other practice areas of the firm as our Trainee year continues.

Like many an Australian male I have to confess to being a sporting tragic. Whether it be the cricket in the summer, following the fortunes of the mighty Bombers in the winter (and hopefully during September in the next few years) or keeping a close eye on the Sport of Kings and my faltering handicap all year round, my weekends are usually dictated by one or the other. Occasionally to balance things out I love to listen to great music and catch up with friends over a drink or two at the many great venues Melbourne has to offer.
